Work on a £1m project to speed up traffic between the A14 and Warren Heath in Ipswich starts today.

The first section to be improved is Ransomes Way between the Warren Heath roundabout and the entrance to Futura Park – the home of Waitrose and John Lewis At Home.

The road is being widened with extra lanes constructed in a bid to improve traffic flow.

The programme is scheduled to take 19 weeks with most of the work being done off-peak to ensure that at the busiest times of the day traffic can flow as easily as possible.

This work is due to be completed by the end of November, ensuring there are no problems for Christmas shoppers.

Next year attention is due to switch to Nacton Road, widening the section of the road from the A14 junction to the Ravenswood roundabout.

The work is being carried out by Kier MG for Suffolk County Council and is partly being funded by contributions from the developers of Futura Park.
