Firefighters prevented a blaze in a workshop from spreading to the adjoining home in Ipswich tonight.

Four crews from Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident in Old Norwich Road just after 7.35pm.

Fire took hold of a single-storey outbuilding measuring 20 metres by 10 metres, which was used to carry out wood work.

When crews arrived, they found the workshop “fully involved in fire”, a spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said.

The spokesman added: “We started by checking the property which was adjoined to the workshop to make sure there was no fire spread.”

Firefighters wore breathing equipment and used jets to extinguish the blaze by shortly after 8.30pm.

No-one was believed to have been injured as a result of the fire.

Suffolk Constabulary attended to control traffic while firefighters tackled the flames.

Two fire crews from Ipswich Princes Street and one each from Ipswich East and Needham Market attended.
