Young football fanatic shows his loyalty

DAVID Beckham has hoards of dedicated fans the world over but one Felixstowe youngster has done that little bit more to prove his loyalty to the World Cup star.

DAVID Beckham has hoards of dedicated fans the world over but one Felixstowe youngster has done that little bit more to prove his loyalty to the World Cup star.

Seven-year-old Daniel Spink is set to be the envy of the classroom when he returns to school with a barnet in the style of the world's favourite football star.

He has joined the latest trend to emulate the goal-scoring hero and had his hair styled into a spike down the middle.

It is likely to cause as much conversation as Beckham's match-winning penalty against Argentina, even though Daniel's first choice of haircut may have been even more of a talking point.

His mother Jackie said: "He wanted to have the Nike tick shaved into it and he really would have liked the mohican-type cut of Freddie Ljungberg which may have been a bit more controversial.

"His hairdresser has been clever though and given him a style that doesn't have to be spiked up so he can change it from day to day."

Despite being persuaded against the multi-coloured Freddie Ljungberg style, Daniel, of Princes Road, is proud of his new Beckham cut and thinks his friends will say it's "cool".

He is a huge football fan and predicts Brazil will win the World Cup although he will remain a follower of England's captain.

"I like the free kicks that he takes," he said.

This is not the first time that Beckham's choice hairstyle has been copied. Whatever cut he has, whether it be a shaved head or a mohican down the middle, there will be plenty of fans popping to their nearest hairdresser to get the same look.

He is one of the world's biggest trend setters for boys and men alike.

But, according to Ross Fisher, who styled Daniel's hair at Michael Richards, in Penshurst Road, Ipswich, there is another contender for the most requested hairstyle – the same footballer Daniel originally wanted to emulate.

Ross said: "There haven't really been a lot of people asking for the new David Beckham cut. I did the shaved mohican about a year ago but that's about it.

"I did do a Freddie Ljungberg red stripe the other day though."

Ross is sure that demand for the Beckham cut will increase, however, as England progress in the World Cup and especially if they win.
