A YOUTH footballer critically injured in a stabbing at his Suffolk school was today said to be improving.

Benjamin Goddard remains in a critical condition in Ipswich Hospital but doctors and his family were more optimistic today.

Meanwhile police were today given more time to question a 15-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder Benjamin at Stradbroke High School.

The youth was arrested yesterday after a Benjamin suffered knife wounds to the stomach during an incident in a toilet at the school.

Police said a senior officer had given detectives a further ten hours to question the arrested youth.

A police spokeswoman said the injured youth remained in a "critical condition" in hospital in Ipswich, Suffolk, but was "improving''.

Staff and pupils at the school - which has less than 400 pupils and is the smallest high school in Suffolk - were yesterday offered counselling following the incident.

Benjamin is a talented young football and is on the books of Norwich City's academy.
