A SUFFOLK school has brought to its stage one of the most popular musicals of recent times.

The production of High School Musical was the biggest stage show Orwell High at Felixstowe has presented so far.

The multi-talented drama team comprised 70 members who were carefully selected following an intense audition process which saw almost 150 pupils and staff compete for places in the massive production.

Students put in huge efforts during the months of rehearsals for the high-energy show and its demanding dance routines.

Director, head of drama Paul Stone, said casting had been a tough job and he was thrilled at the preparation and commitment the pupils' put in both on stage and backstage.

“All sound and lighting is designed and operated by students from the Orwell Technical Team. They have a really professional approach and we rely on them for all the events we put on throughout the year,” he said.

The two-hour show was put on over three nights at the school in Maidstone Road with packed audiences enjoying the spectacle.

Headteacher Peter Tomkins said: “We have some amazingly talented students and all the pupils are excited and enthused by their participation in the arts.

“This sort of high profile show brings together the whole school into an exhilarating collective enterprise.

“Both students and staff have put a lot of themselves into the show.”
