LIBRARIES across Suffolk welcomed some of their youngest members during a special event to encourage a love of books among even those who cannot yet read.

The Bookstart day, part of Children's Book Week, was held at 15 libraries, with most having Teddy Bear-themed events - and youngsters all encouraged to take along their favourite bear to join in the fun.

Events included Teddy Bears' Tea Parties, and some libraries having “bedtime stories with teddy” at their evening session or competitions to win a cuddly bear.

At Felixstowe Library, Crescent Road, the events included Babybounce, Teddy storytime and Tot Rock. All the youngsters - from babies to three year olds - received free Bookstart rhyme sheets, stickers and a bookmark.

The aim of the week-long event was to promote reading among children, and help parents to find out about the wide range of material available to help get their children started and encourage families to spend more time sharing books.
