Ross Halls takes a look at which former Ipswich Town players are now managers and coaches around the world. 

TONY MOWBRAY AND MARK VENUS

The duo are at Championship side Sunderland. They came up against Town on the opening day of the 2023/24 campaign, the Blues winning 2-1 at the Stadium of Light. 

Mowbray and Venus helped Town win promotion to the Premier League in 2000 and between them featured more than 250 times for the club. 

COLE SKUSE

He retired from playing at the end of the 2022/23 season and took over as manager of Suffolk non-league side Bury Town, who play in the eighth-tier of English football. 

Skuse spent eight years at Portman Road, making more than 250 appearances.

KEITH ANDREWS

He is the assistant manager to Stephen Kenny for the Republic of Ireland national team.

Andrews scored nine goals in 20 games during his loan spell at Portman Road in 2011.

LIAM ROSENIOR

He has been in charge of Hull City for over a year now and came up against the Blues last month, his side beaten 3-0 at Portman Road. 

Rosenior, a right-back, made 31 appearances and scored two goals during his loan spell from Reading in 2009/10.

The Tigers also have two other former Town players on their staff in Richard Naylor and Billy Clarke, both of whom work in their academy. 

PATRICK KISNORBO

Became the first Australian to manage in one of Europe's big five leagues when taking charge of French side Troyes last year.

Relegation to the second-tier followed, with his record readings three wins from 38 at present. Recently, the clubs fans have displayed 'Kisnorbo Out' banners.  

Kisnorbo made four appearances during his loan spell at Town from Leeds United in 2013. 

JIM MAGILTON 

Made history when becoming the first ever full-time manager of NIFL Premiership side Cliftonville in June. They are currently third in the table. 

Magilton was in charge at Portman Road between 2006 and 2009 following eight years as a player when he made more than 300 appearances.

ALEX BRUCE

Was recently appointed manager of Northern Premier League side Macclesfield, returning to the club he came out of retirement to play for in 2021. 

Bruce made more than 100 appearances for Town between 2006 to 2010.

LEE BOWYER

Was named Montserrat boss in September, who are ranked 180th in the world, after spells in charge of Charlton Athletic and Birmingham City. 

Bowyer finished his playing career at Ipswich, making 30 appearances and scoring two goals during the 2011/12 season. 

LUKE HYAM

Was forced to end his playing career in 2020 due to a back injury and was appointed manager of Suffolk non-league side Woodbridge Town in February 2022. 

Hyam played 146 times for his boyhood club and is assisted by former Town academy player Billy Clark.

JOHN MCGREAL AND DAVID WRIGHT

The duo are currently leading the Ipswich Town U21s side, who are currently fourth in the Professional Development League South table. 

McGreal returned to the club in December 2021, while Wright came back in January this year. Between them, they featured more than 250 times for Ipswich. 

TOMMY MILLER

Was appointed assistant manager to Julio Arca at National League North side South Shields in May, after a spell with Buxton who play in the same league. 

Miller made more than 200 appearances during his three separate spells at Portman Road. 

JON STEAD

Is a assistant coach at League One side Barnsley, having been appointed by manager Neill Collins this summer after a spell with USL side Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Stead scored 20 goals in 67 games during his time at Portman Road.

KEVIN HORLOCK

He has been in charge of Suffolk non-league side Needham Market since February 2020, where he led his side to the first round of the FA Cup last season. 

Horlock made 62 appearances during his two seasons at Portman Road. 

FRANK YALLOP

He is currently the head coach and sporting director of USL Championship side Monterey Bay, who were only founded in February 2021. 

Yallop made more than 350 appearances for the Blues and was inducted into the club's Hall of Fame in 2022.

KIERON DYER AND GARY ROBERTS

The duo linked up with former Town manager Paul Cook at National League side Chesterfield last season. They are currently top of the fifth-tier. 

Dyer played 117 games for his boyhood club and Roberts made more than 50 appearances for Town.

RICHIE WELLENS

He has been in charge of Leyton Orient since March 2022 and steered the club to promotion as they won the League Two title last season. 

Wellens made seven appearances during his spell from Leicester City in 2012 and has current Town midfielder Idris El Mizouni on loan in League One. 

DAVID LOWE 

He has been a coach at Championship side Blackburn Rovers since 2011 and was recently back at Portman Road when the two sides met in September. 

Lowe scored 44 goals in 159 games between 1987 to 1992. 

NEIL ALEXANDER

He is currently the head of goalkeeping at Scottish top-flight side Motherwell after spells at Dundee United and Dunfermline Athletic as a coach. 

Alexander played 31 games during his brief spell with the Blues.

NEIL THOMPSON

He is currently the Sheffield Wednesday U21s manager, but has taken charge of the first team as a caretaker, most recently when Xisco Muñoz was sacked in October. 

Thompson made 250 appearances during his seven-year spell at Portman Road. 

DARREN CURRIE

He has been the assistant head coach to Kevin Maher at National League side Southend United since October 2021. 

Currie scored nine goals in 89 games during his three seasons at Town. 

GARETH MCAULEY 

He was appointed manager of the Northern Ireland U19s in August, having previously coached the U17s.

McAuley was with the Blues between 2008 and 2011, making more than 100 appearances. 

KEVIN FOLEY

He was appointed as a transitional coach at Premier League side Luton Town this summer, working closely with young players as they progress from the academy to the first team. 

Foley made eight appearances during his brief spell at Town in 2016.

DAVID HEALY

He has been the manager of Northern Irish Premiership side Linfield since October 2015,  aiming for his sixth league title this season. 

Healy spent time on loan at Town from Sunderland in 2010, scoring one goal in 12 games.  

GRANT LEADBITTER 

He is currently a first team coach at Championship side Middlesbrough, working alongside Michael Carrick, having returned to Boro in June 2022 as an Individual Development Coach.

Leadbitter captained the club and made more 100 appearances for Town. 

FINIDI GEORGE 

He is back in his native Nigeria as the head coach of top-flight side Enymiba, where he guided them to the league title last season. 

George scored eight goals in 46 games during his spell at Town.

RICHARD WRIGHT 

He retired from football at the end of 2015/16 and has been Man City's goalkeeping coach under Pep Guardiola ever since.

Wright played 355 games during his three separate spells at Portman Road. 

DARREN O'DEA 

He is currently the B team coach at Scottish giants Celtic, a role he's been in since October 2021 after previously being their Under-18s manager.

O'Dea played 25 games for Town during his loan spell from Celtic in 2010/11. 

STEPHEN HENDERSON

He was appointed first team goalkeeping coach at League One side Charlton Athletic in September after he fulfilling the role on an interim basis.

Henderson played 24 games during his loan spell from West Ham in the 2012/13 season.

ALAN MAHON 

Is the assistant manager to Gareth Taylor for Man City Women, having joined the club's coaching staff in August 2014. He also took charge of the team as interim manager in February 2020. 

Mahon made 12 appearances, scoring one goal, during his loan spell from Blackburn in 2003.

ANDY MARSHALL

He is the current goalkeeper coach at Championship side Millwall, joining the club in the summer of 2022, and has former Town shot stopper Bartosz Bialkowski among his keepers. 

Marshall played 65 games for Town after joining the club from rivals Norwich in 2001.

CHRIS KIWOMYA

He has been the manager of the British Virgin Islands national team since October 2021 and led them to their first win in more than 11 years in September.

Kiwomya scored 64 goals in 262 games for the Blues.

MATT BLOOMFIELD

He was appointed manager of Wycombe in February, replacing Gareth Ainsworth after a stint as the head coach of League Two side Colchester United.

Bloomfield came through the youth ranks at Town but was released with just one first team appearance to his name.

BRIAN MURPHY

He retired from football at the start of 2023 and is a first team coach and head of academy goalkeeping at League of Ireland side Waterford.

Murphy made 25 appearances during his spell at Portman Road. 

NOEL HUNT

He is currently the U23s manager for League One side Reading, where he had a stint as their interim first team manager on their way to relegation from the Championship last season. 

Hunt made 12 appearances and scored three goals during his spell at Portman Road. 

STERN JOHN 

He is currently the head coach of the Saint Lucia national team and gave Town defender Janoi Donacien his first caps for his country in June. 

John scored one goal in nine games during his loan spell from Crystal Palace in 2009/10. 

SAMMY MOORE 

He is the manager of Faversham, who play in the Southern Counties East League Premier Division, the ninth-tier of English football.

Moore was part of the Town side who won the FA Youth Cup in 2005 and went on to make one senior appearance for the Blues.
