Former Ipswich Town loanee Liam Feeney has announced his retirement from football and new life as a football agent.
The 37-year-old winger last played for Scunthorpe United over a year ago, where he was unable to prevent the Iron from suffering a second successive relegation to the National League North in 2022/23.
Feeney started his career in non-league with Hayes and then Salisbury before moving on to Southend, Bournemouth and Millwall before joining Bolton, initially on loan in 2013.
In the second half of the 2015/16 season he joined Town from the Trotters on loan, where he scored once in nine games.
The winger was set to join the Blues on a free transfer in the summer of 2016, but instead signed for Blackburn Rovers on a two-year deal, having previously had a loan spell at Ewood Park in 2014.
He then went on to have spells at Cardiff City (loan), Blackpool and Tranmere Rovers. In total, Feeney made over 600 senior appearances and scored close to 50 goals.
On hanging up his boots, Feeney said on Instagram: "After much thought and reflection, I decided a year ago it’s time to hang up my boots and retire from professional football.
"It was an incredible journey filled with unforgettable moments, challenges, and achievements that I will cherish forever.
"I want to thank my family, friends, teammates, coaches and everyone who has supported me throughout my career. Your support has meant the world to me. Also a thank you to the fans of the clubs I was fortunate enough to have represented.
"While stepping away from the pitch has been bittersweet, I’m excited by this new chapter in football agency with Refuel Performance Management.
"I’ve loved every moment of helping the next generation of players navigate their careers (working alongside the management team that guided mine) and I look forward to using my experience to guide and support players on their journeys.
"Football has given me so much, Thank you all for being a part of my story – here’s to the future!"
Feeney now works at the same agency which represents current Town stars Christian Walton and defender Luke Woolfenden. He also works alongside former Town academy graduate Scott Barron.
