GOLF: HOW many golfers at the age of 86 are able to reduce their handicap?

HOW many golfers at the age of 86 are able to reduce their handicap?

Very few would be the answer, but one exception is Jim Schofield, a member at Waldringfield Heath who plays regularly in the WAGS competitions.

In the July Trophy, played off the back tees, Jim returned a nett 67 in Division 2, but lost on countback. His gross score was a highly respectable 94 off his 27 handicap which he has now had cut by one shot.

Jim, a very fit looking 86, has been playing golf since just after the war – 1947 in fact when he became a member of St Albans Golf Club.

He moved to Suffolk 12 years ago when he joined Waldringfield.

"I'm very fortunate that I'm fit for my age, and I play golf on an average twice a week. I try and play in all the WAGS competitions."

Now Jim is adapting to playing off his new handicap of 26.
