ALEX Lucas, Suffolk Open champion in 2002 and 2004 and a former PGA East Region champion, is to become head professional at Waldringfield Golf Club as from February 1.
Lucas was a trainee at Waldringfield under Tony Dobson and Robin Mann between 1994 and 1998.
He was unattached playing tournament golf until January 2000 when he started a seven-year spell at Fynn Valley Golf Club.
Tim Huffer, who has been head professional at Waldringfield for the past two and a half years, is leaving the club for personal reasons that include the cost of daily travel from his home in west Suffolk.
He will coach two days a week at the West Suffolk Golf Range at Bury St Edmunds and plans to pursue another interest outside golf.
“I have enjoyed my time at Waldringfield and it has been a great experience,” said Huffer, at whose suggestion the Suffolk PGA Stokeplay Championship will be held at Waldringfield on October 10.
