It was not until early afternoon that the skies cleared and the sun did appear for the later starters, but by this time a third of the field had called it a day with only just over 100 completing the 18 holes.
Despite this, the course held up really well, with hardly any build-up of water on the greens, and some good scores were returned.
Nic Grundtvig (Seckford) won the professionals' prize with a very good one under par 69. He dropped one shot on the first nine, but picked up two shots on the inward half.
Kelvin Vince (Fynn Valley) was runner-up, two shots behind and Paul Wilby (Fynn Valley) and Tony Dobson (Bourne Hill DR) were joint third.
But Dobson claimed first prize in the Stableford better-ball event with his partner Alan Middle who plays off four at Woodbridge. They had 41 points.
The next meeting of the Alliance is tomorrow at Seckford, another course that thrives on winter conditions.

Stableford: 41 pts-Tony Dobson (Bourne Hill DR) and Alan Middle (Woodbridge). 40-Sam Buxton and Terry Went (Stoke-by-Nayland). 39-Kenny Minter and Kelvin Davies (Waldringfield Heath) on countback from Nic Grundtvig and Mark Crisp (Seckford) and Roger Toone and Tim Lunness (Stoke-by-Nayland).
Other leading scores: 38- M Lay and P Lay, G Price and R Scott, M Canham and D Chalmers, S Chalk and B Letham, K Vince and C Leggett.
