SEA FISHING

WITH just three points off a maximum score, the Metalite team started off the new Evening Star Sea League season where they left off – winning!

Craig Buy and Robert Tuck won their sections with a mixed bag of codling, whiting and eels. Richard Burt finished second and Mark Pinder third.

Brian Dean Tackle are close behind with a creditable 88 points. Familiar faces in the shape of Southwold A are third with Abu Team Viscount and Team Target fourth and fifth.

Top angler on the day was Team Target's John Smith with 9lb 5oz. John took three soles, eight codling and a pout in his winning bag.

Runner-up was Ian Torn of Brian Dean with Gary Medler third for Southwold A. Twenty-five teams took part in the first round, probably the biggest and hardest league in the country.

Pen Points winners were Smith (Team Target Ipswich), Torn (Brian Dean Tackle Ipswich) and Medler (Southwold A). Section winners were Andy Murray (Brian Dean Tackle Clacton), Robert Tuck (Metalites Walton on Naze) and Craig Buy (Metalites Walton on Naze).

Most of the bags were made up of just sizeable whiting, pout and soles. The open beach (Dirty Wall) produced some codling to a pound and a half.

Considering the bright calm conditions over 80 per cent of 125 anglers taking part weighed in.
