IPSWICH Town made it four Premier Cup wins out of four with this rout of Leiston at Portman Road last night.

And they did it the set-piece way.

The first six goals all came from either corners or free-kicks as Town put the gallant Ridgeons League Premier Division side to the sword - inflicting on Leiston their second Premier Cup final defeat in a row.

Ipswich previously entered this competition from 1967/68 to 1969/70 - and won the trophy all three years.

They then claimed exemption until this campaign, but were not slow in making up for lost time.

Leiston were without central defenders Gerard Nash (suspended), and Donald George (cup-tied), and they went behind in the 16th minute when Liam Trotter drove high into the net after Scott Barron had played in a short corner.

In the 28th minute, a Sammy Moore free-kick was headed in by Jordan Rhodes, and a minute later a short corner routine ended with Barron crossing and Michael Synnott heading in after the ball had been flicked on.

On the stroke of half-time, Trotter made it four when he touched a Synnott header into the net after a left-wing corner.

The pace never slackened and at times Leiston competed well. But they went further behind in the 65th minute when an unmarked Dean Bowditch drove low into the net after Billy Clarke had played back a corner.

Clarke got to his feet after being fouled in the 83rd minute to curl a 20-yard free-kick directly into the net.

Three minutes later Barron nodded the ball over the line after Moore had seen his shot saved by Darren Moyes.

In the 89th minute substitute Jai Reason side-footed the ball into the net with the Leiston defence all at sea.
