TATTINGSTONE scored a narrow Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division One win over Sudbury after winning the toss on a damp, drizzly day and putting Sudbury in to bat in difficult conditions.

Grant Rowley (53) and Matt Pears (31) took the score to 91 before South African Rowley was caught behind. The middle order then folded against Stuart Hammond (five for 16) and John Oates (three for 45).

Tattingstone were reduced to 83 for six in reply but then Chris Bell, who had earlier pulled a hamstring and so batted down the order, and Nigel Parmenter took them close, and Steve Bell and Gavin Driver took them to their target.

Copdock, last season's runners-up gained their second win this year with ease at The Victory Ground, where they dismissed Bury 2nds for 79 and wrapped up a seven-wicket win.

Champions Exning also found their form at home to Browns. The visitors posted 173 (Matt Parry 63) before Peter Allen (54 not out) and Nigel Lomas (89) helped the home side to a nine-wicket win.

In Division Two, Easton scored their first win at home to Worlington. John Todd (76) and Chris Branch (66) were the mainstays of the home total of 215 for five, and Lindsay Huggins picked up three wickets as the visitors ended on 186 for eight.

STEVE Witham joined the likes of Sir Garry Sobers when he achieved every batsman's dream at Abberton on Saturday – he hammered six sixes in a single over.

The big-hitting Cavendish Wanderers batsman recalled hitting the first five balls of an over for six previously – but he failed to score off the sixth.

At Abberton he made no mistake, having hit two straight sixes and four more over mid-wicket.

Witham said: "It was difficult for the bowlers because it was very wet and the ball was like a piece of soap.

"I'd been listening to Ipswich on the radio, and they were 2-0 down at Anfield when I went out to bat. I guess I took out some frustration on the bowlers."

Witham, 31, hammered 130 in 10 overs and his perfect over saw his score soar from 60 to 96. The final Cavendish total was 265 for six, and Abberton made a spirited reply to reach 251 for seven.
