DARREN Bent is chasing a personal end-of-season double.

While he assists Ipswich's pursuit of promotion to the Premiership, he can also succeed on two other fronts.

The 20-year-old striker is in a rich vein of form, having averaged a goal a game in Town's last seven league outings.

That purple patch has put him in pole position to become the club's leading scorer, having reached the 14-goal mark prior to today's visit to Gillingham.

And he must be one of the front-runners to be crowned player of the year when the annual supporters' poll is conducted at next week's home clash with Nottingham Forest.

But Bent cast aside all thoughts of personal glory as he looked at the remaining games that will decide Ipswich's fate.

The England Under-21 striker said: “The only thing that really matters to me is that I am playing in the Premiership next season with Ipswich.

“I really don't mind if I don't score any more goals between now and the end of the season, as long as we collect enough points to be in the play-offs.”

Not surprisingly, given his recent scoring exploits, Bent is feeling on top of the world right now.

He added: “I think everyone at the club is big on confidence at the moment after such a good run of form.

“We've set high standards that must be maintained. Our target must be to win all our remaining games.”

But Bent went into today's game at Gillingham claiming it could prove to be an even tougher assignment than Sunderland's visit five days ago.

He said: “Gillingham are not only scrapping for points, they also have home advantage, so it could be a harder game for us.”
