A FLOODLIT cricket match will be played in Suffolk for the first time tomorrow night when Brantham entertain Southside from Kent in a 40 over day/night match that starts at 4pm. Both sides will be playing in colours associated with the one-day professional game – Brantham in yellow and Southside in pink.
Brantham's shirts will be both named and numbered while the sightscreens will be blackened and a white ball used.
Gary Forster of Brantham revealed how the match came about. "Russell Smith's parents live in Capel St Mary and, along with his twin Mark, he plays for Brantham.
"He now lives and works in London and turns out for Southside when he is not visiting his parents at the weekend.
"We decided to make the game a bit special and opted for a day-night match."
The four floodlight pylons used for night football matches at the ground will all be turned on, plus the football training lights.
"This will give us enough light," added Gary, who was at the club last night with team-mates and club officials getting the ground ready.
The bar at Brantham Sports and Social Club will be open from 2pm tomorrow and there will be a BBQ and raffle.
Southside are also playing matches at Bawdsey on Sunday and Melton on Monday.
