WHEN John Reid bought Brett Vale four and a half years ago, he promised a big investment to make it one of the best courses in Suffolk.

John has worked tirelessly since to make improvements both on and off the course and it is paying dividends.

There is a membership of 650 that has significantly increased over the last four years.

Brett Vale is one of the most picturesque courses in the county with a par of 70, but still demanding off the back tees.

The most significant change is that of the clubhouse, with the current work expected to be finished in the New Year.

There is a new foyer and changing rooms while the new function room is almost ready.

On two sides of the clubhouse is a balcony overlooking the 18th green on one side and the practice area on the other.

John's son, Daniel, said: "A great deal of money has been spent on improving the course and the clubhouse.

"More fairway irrigation has been put in during this year and there will be more done in 2002."

Three practice holes have been set up and will be ready in time for the early part of next year.

A great deal of work has been done on the tees while the paths between the holes are all in place.

With an increase in members – in fact the seven-day

membership is almost closed – Brett Vale is in a very healthy state.

The social side of the club is strong.

Now with the clubhouse being enlarged, it will be able to cater for more functions.

Brett Vale has certainly come a long way since it opened less than ten years ago and has proved a welcome addition to the Suffolk golf scene.
