WAYNE Brown asked his fellow Ipswich defender Hermann Hreidarsson before agreeing to go to Wimbledon for a month on loan.

The 24-year-old Brown will be joining the lowly First Division Dons in training and will make his debut in Saturday's home game with Sheffield Wednesday at Selhurst Park.

Hreidarsson joined Town in a £4.5 million deal from Wimbledon in August last year.

Brown said: "I've spoken to Hermann and he says that I'll be joining a good club. He says that manager Terry Burton is an excellent coach and considers that the move will be good for me."

Wimbledon certainly need someone to help them at the back. They are weakened by injuries and last night threw away a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 at home to Portsmouth.

After that game Burton said that he was considering quitting the club due to the proposed move to play at Milton Keynes.

But, despite this situation, Brown, who finished last season on loan at QPR, is looking forward to his move and said: "I'm going to get games under my belt as well as first-team fitness and sharpness. I've spoken to Terry Burton and he's told me that if I do well there may be a chance of a permanent move. If I do a good job, who knows what might happen.

"At the moment I'm well down the pecking order for a first team central defensive place at Ipswich and so it is best to go elsewhere, at least for the moment.

"When I went to QPR the club went into receivership the day after and everyone was wondering whether they would be getting paid. Relegation was looking them in the face and then I got injured.

"This move to Wimbledon will hopefully be a far better experience and I'm really looking forward to it."

Brown was set to go to Wimbledon on loan last season, but this was not possible due to injury.

The London-born defender, who has made 36 Town senior appearances and was voted most improved player at the club 14 months ago, had a loan period at Colchester earlier in his Blues career.

Dons boss Burton said: "Wayne is a strong and solid defender who we feel can help us at the moment. If he does well and enjoys it here then it could a be a deal can be agreed for him to join us permanently."
