Bunyan joins Reading but Witches seek on

SPEEDWAY: Jason Bunyan, who rode for Ipswich Witches for the last three seasons, has joined Reading for the 2002 speedway campaign. The Premier League club that now has former Witches boss Chris Shears as a co-promoter have completed their squad for next season by signing Bunyan and Paul Clews.

The Premier League club that now has former Witches boss Chris Shears as a co-promoter have completed their squad for next season by signing Bunyan and Paul Clews.

They join Tomas Topinka, Dave Mullett, Phil Morris, Chris Schramm and Brendon Mackay at Smallmead in a solid looking Racers team.

Milton Keynes-based Bunyan said: "I'm delighted to have everything sorted out, Reading was always the club I wanted to join this winter."

Meanwhile, nothing has happened at Ipswich over the pre-Christmas period with promoter John Louis still having two places to fill in his Sky Sports Elite League side.

So far Louis has Chris Louis, Scott Nicholls, Craig Boyce and Jeremy Doncaster confirmed starters while Leigh Lanham will share his Witches duties at reserve with a heat leader berth at Arena.

Louis' plans were almost complete until Shaun Tacey opted to stay with Arena rather than move to his home-town club Ipswich.

He now faces the difficult task of finding a competent reserve with a three or four point average, and this may take some time. Louis can then complete his side with a suitable second string signing.
