IPSWICH are looking abroad to boost their Premiership survival bid.

Boss George Burley admitted today: "We have a specific player in mind. He plays for a foreign club and we are talking to them.

"We are looking to establish whether they would be willing to sell him. That's as far as it has progressed so far."

Burley laughed off reports of a club record swoop for Dundee midfielder Gavin Rae when he said: "It's news to me."

Another newspaper exclusive claimed the highly-rated Scot, who has had a £10million price tag placed on his head by Dens Park boss Ivano Bonetti, was Town's main target.

But it seems such reports can be taken with more than a pinch of salt – all the sodium chloride in Siberia more like!

Burley added: "I know all about Gavin Rae. I know the boy well, but we have not made any bid. He's a central midfield player and that's an area where we are well covered at the moment. There are other areas of the team that I am looking to strengthen."

Burley also suggested Rae is out of Town's league when he continued: "We are certainly looking to bring another player into the squad, but we don't have these sort of resources at the moment.

"We're not in a position to spend that sort of money – even if I wanted to. We're making enquiries about a player and that's it for the time being."

Burley also reported that there have been no bids for unsettled striker Richard Naylor, who last week rejected an offer to extend his stay at Portman Road.
