THE youth policy at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club showed that it is bearing fruit when six of their former players turned out for National One side Cambridge earlier this month.

Greg White, Matt Edison, Ben Cooper, Will Martin, Toby Berridge and Billy Robinson all played their part in Cambridge's 16-14 win against Sedgeley Park having all come through the youth ranks at Bury.

Club stalwart Rick Martin brought the players through the ranks at the club and paid tribute to the youngsters.

“This achievement demonstrates the high level at which the youngsters at Bury are now playing, and they are a credit to the whole club and its youth development.”

West Suffolk College should also take a lot of the credit as all six were students there.

West Suffolk College coach, Nigel Brown, said: “Our current players at the Academy are following in the footsteps of these players. To see them representing one of the most senior sides in Eastern Counties Rugby can only be a positive influence on their approach to the Academy.”
