SUFFOLK will be looking to their top order to come up trumps today so they can collect a victory that is vital if they are to retain their Eastern Division Minor Counties Championship title.

In their first innings of this three-day match at March, Suffolk were 58 for four before recovering to end ten runs short of their hosts.

Suffolk's main batsmen will have to fare better in their second knock to see the visitors home on a wicket that has favoured the bowlers from the start.

And the batting of Suffolk's lower order also left plenty to be desired yesterday, with nearly every batsman getting themselves in, but failing to capitalise.

This meant that Suffolk's bowlers had to be accurate when Cambridgeshire began their second innings, and Andrew McGarry and Justin Bishop obliged, conceding just 15 runs off their first 17 overs.

The last Cambs pair put on 88 for the tenth wicket on Sunday, and they were still holding up Suffolk in the

second innings when stumps were drawn last night.

Skipper Phil Caley will be keeping his fingers crossed for an early wicket this morning, and then a gritty batting display to score the runs necessary to collect 16 points for a win, which would make 22 with six of the maximum eight bonus points already accrued.

Suffolk bowled well throughout apart from a couple of Chris Schofield overs that went for a total of

22. Schofield bowled in tandem with fellow spinner Chris Swallow after tea, and they took five wickets between them.

Swallow is having a good season with both bat and ball, and he had impressive figures of two for 32 in 18 overs, with McGarry coming back to grab the wicket of Ricardo Anderson.

Suffolk are still unbeaten this campaign, having won three matches and drawn two rained-off one-day matches, and two rain-affected three day games.

Their season could turn on whether they can maintain their batting discipline in the run quest that will present itself today.
