IF Capel Plough's visit to Old Newton had produced a precious win their senior status would have been secured for another season. At this time of the season the chance for points diminish as the games run down.

Old Newton were the dominant side in the first half and it was Richards who finally pierced Capel's resistance cutting a shot back low across the keeper to find the far corner of the net on 35 minutes.

Capel appealed for an infringement allowing Richards the room to score, but all to no avail.

The second half introduction of Powell livened up the proceedings and his curling free kick could have saved a point but for a wonderful flying save by Lambert to keep his goal intact.
