WHEN Brian Cobb chose Friday, September 13 to hold his Captain's Day for the St Clement's Veterans, he must have known he was on a winner.

Brian has that mischievous sense of humour as I found out to my cost – more of that on the facing page – but certainly Friday the 13th held no disasters for those who are superstitious.

The weather was perfect with glorious sunshine all day at Felixstowe Ferry where Brian chose to hold his day – although the wind made golf tricky – and it was generally agreed that this was the best Captain's Day ever.

In the morning 24 veterans played a better-ball pairs competition on the nine-hole course while in the afternoon there were 29 for the 18-hole individual Stableford on the main course.

Felixstowe was in magnificent condition and the hospitality in the clubhouse at lunchtime and in the evening was well appreciated by the St Clement's veterans.

Richard Cook and Rex Harper won the nine-hole morning competition with 20 points while Gerry Harris took the honours in the afternoon with 36 points, winning by one point from Ken Wright.
