Christchurch 5 Southwold 1

CHRISTCHURCH opened their home account with an impressive victory against Southwold to make it maximum points from their opening two games.

From the start Christchurch piled on the pressure and had a short corner cleared off the line and then hit the post before they eventually took the lead.

A scrambled goalmouth melee saw Debbie Clements react first to slot the ball home. The home side were playing fluent hockey now and from another short corner Sam Dean was on hand to drive the ball home.

Christchurch then made a substitution with Joyce Jay coming on. She immediately made her presence felt with a superb flicked effort over the keeper which was ruled out as Clements played the goalbound effort at head height.

Minutes later the lively Jay got her name on the scoresheet with another controlled flicked effort to put the home side three up.

Southwold then immediately broke back and grabbed a consolation goal with a well taken effort.

The second half again belonged to Christchurch when Clements charged down an attempted clearance to flick the ball across the area for the alert Becky Hudson to finish.

Ten minutes from the end the young Sapphire Cutting netted for the second week running when she found herself with space with only the goalkeeper to beat and she picked her spot perfectly.

This completed an impressive five-star performance from Christchurch.
