RESULTS in previous rounds produced an unusual situation in the national inter-club competitions.

Ipswich and District IBC found themselves facing Colchester IBC in the next rounds of three different events, all scheduled to be played within a period of eight days.

The first of these - the Yetten Trophy – resulted in disappointment for Ipswich Ladies, who lost by 71 shots to 86. At both venues it was the visiting rinks which fared best.

At Colchester the Ipswich teams, three shots down at 15 ends, fought back to finish with a seven-shot advantage, but at Ipswich the visitors took charge from the start and, although pegged back to a nine-shot lead after 15 ends, dominated the remainder to run out 22-shot winners.

Scorers (Ipswich names first)

At Ipswich (28 shots-50): M Insley 15, J Foster 24, G Rednall 13, B Brown 26.

At Colchester (43 shots-36): I Morey 21, E Tunn 18, S Utteridge 22, P Harris 18.

Ipswich gained revenge in the second event, a third round tie in the Egham (Mixed Fours) Trophy, winning by 85 shots to 75. At Colchester the visitors did well to hold the home team to nine shots, with Phil Last's 19-all draw, after being six shots down at 18 ends, a good performance.

At Ipswich, both home rinks recorded good wins, with Mark Royal's 15-shot success again providing the main contribution to the Ipswich victory.

The zone final of the Vivienne Trophy was the third clash between the two clubs, and Colchester Ladies repeated their Yetton success, winning by 76 shots to 65.

The match followed a normal pattern, with home rinks making the running.

At Ipswich they had to fight hard for shots and edged slowly ahead, but never really dominated the proceedings, finishing 11 shots up, thanks to five shots in the last three ends.

At Colchester the visitors were only seven shots adrift after 10 ends, but thereafter failed to hold the home rinks, who added steadily to their score to finish 22 shots to the good.
