UFFORD Park's tenth anniversary celebrations last month were an unqualified success.

During the week three golf competitions were held for the corporate business, hotel guests and club members.

In the Corporate Day over 40 companies were represented and after the golf there was a dinner followed by comedian Ian Richards who is chairman of the Comedians Golf Society.

The winning pair in the four-ball better-ball Stableford competition were Malcolm Beard and Kevin Gray representing Girdlestones with 48 points and they were presented with Ufford Park engraved claret jugs.

The runners-up were Peter Boyle and Ivor McCaw (BTexact Technologies), who had 45 points, one better than Jeremy Scowsill and Jeremy Westcott (Cromwell Financial Management) on countback from Pat Betts and Paul Dawson (CEL).

Shirley and Colin Aldous, the Ufford Park proprietors, wanted to celebrate their ten years at the club by recognising those people who had supported them over the years and the next event was the Hotel Residents Golf Guest Day.

An 18-hole individual Stableford was played in the morning with a nine-hole Portuguese one-club competition in the afternoon and a gala dinner at night.

Kurt Mason was the winner with Graham Watkinson, Ufford Park's seniors captain the runner-up. Third was Steve Butcher.

Bill Lennox, Christine McCloud and Alistair McCloud won the overall team prize and other prizes went to Joyce McFarlane (nearest the pin on the fifth), Bob Drive (longest drive for men on the seventh) and Julie Larter (longest drive on the seventh for ladies). In the one-club competition, the winning team was Jan Inglis, Derek Croft, Kurt Mason and Eric Hill and the most golf played award went to Colin and Joyce McFarlane and Ann and Ian Wood.

Ninety-one players took part in the 18-hole Stableford competition for golf club members with a further 50 guests joining them in the evening for a hog roast and steel band.

The winning team with 89 points were Nigel Friend, John Driver, Neil Churchyard and Martin Ashburn, and the runners-up were Alan Knight, Peter Stunell, Shirley Stunell and Henrietta Lewis with 87 points. Third place went to Peter McDermott, Rob McDermott, Richard Hislop and M Stenett with 86 points.

Nearest the pin at the tenth (men): Tommy Phillips. Nearest the pin at the 10th (ladies): Lynne Ridout. Nearest the pin with second shot at the ninth: Colin McGregor. Nearest the pin with second shot at the 12th: Derek Marriott. Longest drive at the seventh (men): Nigel Friend. Longest drive on the 18th: John Larter. Hidden holes (fourth, seventh, 11th and 17th) with 22 points were: David Homer, David Doggett, Phil Wallace and Lynne Ridout.
