WANDERERS' Cup run came to an end despite a sterling effort after being reduced to 10 men on the hour.

Pennant took the lead on 11 minutes when Warren's free kick was headed past his own

goalkeeper by Smy. Wanderers levelled on 17 minutes when, after a good build up Andrew, Coote curled the ball past the keeper.

Wanderers were enjoying a spell of pressure but against the run of play Pennant retook the lead when Matthews hauled back Downes, but he was allowed to run on and cut inside two defenders before slotting the ball past Stannard.

Wanderers almost levelled the tie on 50 minutes when Craig Coote shot past Goodman, but

covering defender Peters deflected the shot on to the crossbar.

The dangerous Matthews then carved Wanderers open and the unmarked Stevens scored Pennant's third. Wanderers had Andrew Coote dismissed for dangerous play and missed a good chance when Osborn found Smy, but his shot hit the side netting.

With five minutes left Wanderers pulled a goal back when from a Goldfinch free kick captain Bell headed home acrobatically.
