Darts players record impressive win

A GOOD win was required from Suffolk when they visited top of the table Worcestershire, in the penultimate Division Three fixture in the BICC 2006/07 season - and that's exactly what they got.

However, the weekend did not get off to the best of starts when the Suffolk team coach did not turn up, due to a booking mix-up. Although this was worrying at the time for all concerned, everyone rallied round and volunteer drivers managed to get all 36 players, reserves, officials and supporters to Redditch in good time. This proved to be the best team spirit building exercise Suffolk may have ever undergone.

The ladies' B team started the proceedings by recording a 3-3 draw. The winners were lady of the match Sylvia Rogers (3-1, 16.39 av.), Barbara Chenery (3-1, 15.61 av.) and Sue Thompson (3-0, 15.99 av.).

In the men's B match, Suffolk recorded a very creditable 7-5 victory, thanks to wins from Daren Wood (3-2, 23.73 av.), Andy Batih (3-1, 18.57 av.), Dave Blackburn (3-2, 21.57 av.), Jamie Philpot (3-2, 23.95 av.), Dave Ballard-Flatt (3-2, 20.43 av,), man of the match Tom Howling (3-1, 25.26 av.) and Andy Barker (3-2, 20.88 av.).

So, with a very familiar 10-8 overnight scoreline (but this time in Suffolk's favour) the ladies' A team started brightly and also drew 3-3 in their match. The winners were Nicky Bradley (3-0, 19.78 av.), captain Sue Talbot (3-0, 17.68 av.) and lady of the match Louise Groves (3-1, 21.80 av.).

Beginning with a two-game advantage, the men's A team knew that a draw or better in their match would be sufficient to ensure overall victory. They pulled out all the stops and came out 7-5 winners of a very well contested match, and should be very proud of their performance. The winners were Andy Noy (3-1, 22.38 av.), Jason Evans (3-1, 24.56 av.), Daniel Willimott (3-1, 26.03 av.), captain Carl Wilkins (3-1, 24.93 av.), James Druitt (3-2, 24.47 av.), Nicky Wright (3-1, 22.80 av.) and last but by no means least, Suffolk's most consistent player this season and man of the match, Nicky Bloom (3-1, 27.56 av.).
