TENNIS: Suffolk Ladies, fielding the youngest team in their history, won promotion in the Ladies' County Winter Cup. They beat Cornwall 5-4, Isle of Man 9-0 and East of Scotland 6-3.

Fifteen-year-old Amy Robinson of Newmarket, Suffolk's top junior of the year, was supported by Grace Hutson, Olivia Berry, Katrina Wash and Kim Percy, and all are under 21. Julia Blatchly was captain.

Key players like Melissa Berry and Andrea Cooper were abroad while Kerry Martin, Katie Bull and Laura Bugg were all unavailable.

The Suffolk men's team held their place in Group 3A of the indoor county championships in Welwyn thanks to a narrow win over Berkshire on Saturday.

Steve Lockwood and James Trotman triumphed 6-3 in the deciding set of the deciding doubles for a 5-4 win and that proved to be enough to avoid relegation.

The scores were level at 3-3 after the singles, with Lockwood, Jeremy Cowley and James Ashton the Suffolk winners. The first two doubles were split, which meant the overall result hinged on the top match, with Lockwood and Trotman prevailing.

However, Suffolk still had a few worries as they lost their final match 6-3 to Buckinghamshire on Sunday and had to wait for Dorset – who were promoted as group winners – to complete a 5-2 win over Berkshire.
