JOHN McGreal and Tommy Miller were doubts for Ipswich Town's home First Division clash against Sunderland at Portman Road today.

The former suffered a slight reaction to the ankle injury that has bothered him for a couple of weeks while Miller had a dead leg and tight hamstring.

“I would expect them to play if the match was Tuesday and we will see how they are before the Sunderland game,” said Royle.

Georges Santos was likely to return if McGreal was out, with Royle saying he had contingency plans if Miller - the bigger doubt - failed to make it.

Richard Naylor came into the squad and joined the 16 who were on duty at Millmoor in the 3-1 win on Saturday. Jim Magilton and Ian Westlake were both doubts before Saturday's match but both came through with no ill-effects.

“It is in our own hands now,” added Royle. “We have not had much luck this season and we were due some.”

The manager was not as amazed as most at Millmoor when Jermaine Wright cracked Ipswich's goal of the season.

The 66th minute equaliser gave Rotherham keeper Mike Pollitt no chance from 28 yards when Wright's first-time right-foot volley screamed into the top corner of the goal.

“Jermaine regularly hits them like that in training,” said Royle. “It was a great goal and one that came at the right time for us. In fact all four goals were a credit to the First Division.

“In the first half we offered Rotherham no threat, but we took control after the interval.

“We enjoyed a little bit of luck with Rotherham hitting the post twice and it is not an easy place to come.

“We let them get to us in the first period, and the pitch did neither side any favours.

“Rotherham can play a bit and they are one of the better teams in the bottom end of the table. They will not go down.”

Royle revealed that McGreal declared himself fit on Good Friday. “John said he was fit to play after training, which was a bonus when we expected him to be out with Georges Santos set to play,” added Royle.

“John was outstanding, while Jermaine Wright gave us attacking options down the right side in the second period. Martijn Reuser was influential after he came on.”

Rotherham scorer Chris Sedgwick was not due to play as he was suffering from an ankle injury. The home side were likely to start with a 3-5-2 formation with Paul Gilchrist set to play in the back three.

But he was taken ill in the dressing room and Sedgwick was bandaged up and asked to play.

Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore said: “We were robbed and at least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask!

“We have some broken hearts, but there is no need for us to be down as if we play like this we will escape the drop.

“We had chances, but failed to kill Ipswich off. And with a side of their quality they were always likely to make us pay.

“If we had scored a second goal it would have meant Ipswich throwing caution to the wind and we could have gone on and scored four.

“Once Jermaine Wright scored it put Ipswich's tails up and the first two goals were as good as you will see anywhere. Before Wright's strike I could not see Ipswich scoring.”
