IPSWICH’S Elena Baltacha has been knocked out of the ASB Classic in New Zealand following a straight sets defeat to world number 20, Flavia Pennetta, of Italy.
World number 20, Baltacha had won her first game on Monday against New Zealand’s Sacha Jones but fell short against the fourth seed, who proved too strong in the second round.
Pennetta converted her one break point in the first set and then clinched the opener after a rain delay on set point. She cruised through the second set to secure a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
