IPSWICH star Fabian Wilnis will not rush his response to the club's offer of a new one-year deal.

But the Dutch full-back, pictured left, is anxious that supporters don't misinterpret his decision to take his time before giving Town an answer.

"I'm not considering other offers, not at all," insisted 33-year-old Wilnis. "It has always been the same when I have been offered a new contract – I don't see the point in making a quick decision

"I just like to take my time and not rush into things. I'm not the type of person who rushes things, but that's just me."

Wilnis, a £200,000 signing from De Graafschap in January 1999, has regularly spoken of his desire to stay put at Portman Road.

He, Jim Magilton and Richard Naylor all accepted a cut in salary last summer to commit themselves to Town.

The likelihood is that Wilnis will return from his travels next month and sign the contract, the details of which were relayed to him this week by boss Joe Royle.

Wilnis is returning to his native Holland before taking his wife and three daughters on a family holiday to Turkey.

Then he is heading for Spain to spend a few days at the home of his Ipswich colleague, Pablo Counago, whose lucrative contract still has a year to run.

He added: "I have arranged to stay with Pablo and he is going to show me round his home town, near Vigo."

Wilnis is one of seven out-of-contract players to be offered new deals. Wilnis, Magilton and Naylor, along with John McGreal, Chris Makin and Lewis Price, have all been offered 12-month deals.

In Makin's case, he will first sign a two-month contract in order to prove his fitness after a nightmare 2003-2004 campaign saw him sidelined for all but the first month.

Royle said today: "Chris is absolutely flying in training and things are looking good. He was a big miss to us last season but he is on schedule to be fit and raring to go next time."

Midfielder Jermaine Wright has been offered a longer contract, believed to be two years, but Town could face stiff competition for his signature.

Wright, 28, has been linked with Southampton and it is understood that one or two other Premiership clubs, as well as several leading First Division outfits, are keen.

The former Millwall, Wolves and Crewe player is available on a Bosman free transfer, which means Ipswich would not receive a penny if he decided his future lay elsewhere.

Town's out-of-contract players have until June 30, when their current deals expire, to decide on their next move.
