Felixstowe on the up

FELIXSTOWE returned to winning ways in Division Two North of the Printwize East League by lowering the colours of second placed Norwich Union with a performance which demonstrated how much they have improved since the dark days of the early season when relegation was a fear.

Starting solidly, Felixstowe found themselves creating several chances in the early minutes, with the best falling up Rob Earl whose shot produced a fine save from the Norwich keeper.

It wasn't long, however, before Felixstowe took the lead when a well-worked short corner routine found James Walker in plenty of space to slot the ball home.

Felixstowe continued to dominate the first half, but were unable to convert any of their chances let Norwich back into the game.

The visitors equalised with a well placed short corner strike and then took the lead after some sloppy defending by Felixstowe.

The second half started in much the same vein with Felixstowe pressing forward, but this time they ensured that they kept their foot on the gas and converted the chances they made.

Olly Holloway, playing at centre forward, made several penetrating runs into the Norwich circle

and was able to set Steve Taylor up with two easy tap-in goals.

Continuing to play the majority of the game in the Norwich half, Felixstowe earned a series of short corners from which they took maximum advantage.

James Judge scored twice with direct strikes and Taylor then completed his hat-trick when he was first to pounce on a rebound off the keeper.

Despite Norwich gaining a consolation goal in the middle of the Felixstowe scoring spree, the result was never in doubt and was a fair reflection of the game.

With eight wins out of their last ten games Felixstowe are now sitting comfortably sitting in the top half of the table, but can only rue the first five games of the season when they gained only one point. On current form, the opportunity for a promotion push would have been a real possibility.
