Felixstowe & Walton's unenviable record that has seen them fail to record a national cup victory for three seasons continued on Saturday as they were dealt an early cruel blow that saw them conceded a ninth minute penalty from which they never recovered.

Ryman Division Two side Great Wakering started the game strongly and the home side had to work hard defensively in the opening minutes to contain them and looked to have weathered the early storm when Flack broke clear down the right chasing a long clearance, looking at least four yards offside the assistant referee waived play on to everyone's astonishment and Charters pulled him down inside the area as the striker tried to round the home keeper. From the spot kick Ewers put the visitors ahead and the Seasiders struggled to contain Wakering as they strung together some neat football while Felixstowe & Walton looked visibly shaken by the early goal.

A deep free kick from Nicky Barker into the Wakering area on the half hour, that the Wakering defence cleared under pressure, seemed to give the home side the lift they were looking for and they began to string some neat passing moves together that had their visitors defending deep in their own half, but as the half time break approached Wakering broke away and Ewers ran onto a long clearance to beat Charters with a looping shot from the edge of the area.

The first half was into its fourth minute of time added on when Felixstowe & Walton, who had the Wakering goal under siege, finally got the breakthrough with Deasy pulling a goal back with a close range effort from Bickers cross.

Sibanda who replaced Flack immediately after the penalty was allowed time and space on the six-yard box to beat Charters to restore the visitors' advantage five minutes into the second half and the goal proved to be too much for the home side to pull back despite a much improved second half performance that saw them control the game for long periods without finding a way through.

If the home side needed any confirmation that their luck was out it came when McCormack was cautioned in the 87th minute after being kicked by a Wakering defender who went down with what looked a self-imposed injury for which the referee appeared to punish the victim rather than the offender.
