Flinder Boyd will not make GB basketball team

PUBLISHED: 09:18 27 March 2012

GREAT BRITAIN international Flinder Boyd will not represent his country at this summer’s Olympics after calling time on his London 2012 dream.

The 32-year-old has announced his retirement from the professional game after conceding he was not in the running to make the squad, following a battle against a number of injuries.

Boyd, who has been capped 34 times and was a member of the EuroBasket squad in 2009, said: “I’ve been struggling with injuries for a while and was hanging on to try to make the Olympics, but when I got word I wouldn’t make the cut I decided it was time to move on.

“I’ve had ten great years in the sport and loved my time in Europe, but especially my time with GB. We had a great team in 2008 which earned EuroBasket berth and we did it again in 2010; these were some of my favourite memories.”

Boyd had begun this season with the Leicester Riders but left the team earlier this year.
