ANN Baxter-Smith's Roundwood team produced a storming finish to snatch a dramatic victory in the opening round of the National Express Women's All England Fours bowls championship at Royal Leamington Spa.

Baxter-Smith and her club mates Joyce Love, Beryl Tricker and Janet Paternoster raced 8-1 ahead of Wendy Adams' Chichester Priory side, but the Sussex quartet charged back with 15 shots over eight ends to lead 16-11.

The Chicester four were still in command at 19-13 with three ends left, but Baxter-Smith conjured up a double, a four and a single to snatch victory 20-19.

Baxter-Smith and company rocketed 5-0 ahead in the second round against Ann Richards' Amesbury, Wiltshire, side but saw the opposition battle back to lead 13-8 after 10 ends. Richards held a 19-14 advantage after 15 ends and then scored on four of the next five ends to win 27-15.
