The Foxes have turned to Worthington to help steer them to Coca-Cola Championship safety after sacking Rob Kelly.
Worthington, who was sacked in October by Norwich, has been placed in temporary charge until the end of the season by the Foxes' new owner Milan Mandaric.
Former Northern Ireland international Worthington, who will face his former team at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday, will be joined by Doug Livermore as his assistant.
