ALAN Gorham, chief executive of the Metaltec SIL, is to have some of his duties transferred.

The league is today advertising for a fixtures and referee co-ordinator to start work next summer.

This is a task currently handled by Gorham, who is also handing over new player registration duties to league treasurer Mary Woodley.

"At my age I should be thinning down," said Gorham today. "With younger enthusiasm in the more routine jobs I am sure the league will gain. The moves will put me in a position where I will be of greatest value to the SIL."

Gorham has served the biggest Suffolk football league so well since he first became secretary/treasurer in 1974. He is one of the best servants the league has had in its 107-year history.

His predecessor as secretary, the late George Scopes, was in the post from 1936 until 1974.

The league is looking to appoint a fixtures and referee co-ordinator on a three-year appointment with an average of eight to ten hours work every week over the season.

The post carries a 'reasonable' honorarium paid in four equal parts per annum. The candidate will need to have a certain knowledge of local football and work as a member of the SIL administration team.

Applications should be made in writing to Alan Gorham, 179 Cauldwell Hall Road, Ipswich IP4 5DA.
