Hadleigh United boss Stuart Alston is looking forward to a night under the lights at the Millfield tomorrow night (Friday), as the Brettsiders look to kick-start their season.

Hadleigh entertain fellow Thurlow Nunn Premier Division strugglers Ipswich Wanderers, who are being led by caretaker manager Mark Goldfinch, following the departure of Shane Wardley.

The hosts have lost their last four, conceding 11 goals, while Wanderers have won just one game all season, meaning a win for either side could ease the pressure on them.

“We always seem to generate a good atmosphere and crowd under the lights,” said Alstom.

“Both sides are down at the bottom of the table so it’s a big game for both of us.”

Hadleigh lost last time out at Stanway, 2-0, having previously been beaten in the league, 5-1, by the runaway leaders, Felixstowe & Walton.

“We started off the season OK but the last three games have been so poor and we will be looking to improve our home form at the Millfield,” Alston added.

“It’s a massive game. Myself and Mark Goldfinch are in charge of the respective teams and it’s a game we will both be targeting for three points.”

Hadleigh have bolstered their squad with the signing of AFC Sudbury midfielder Jack Newman, who will go straight into the squad for this evening’s game.

“Jack was out-of-contract, he is a central midfielder, and is a player that likes to play the ball forwards,” Alston explained.

“We have got a lot of players that are good off the ball and hopefully Jack will add some experience to the squad.”

Hadleigh currently lie in 17th position with Wanderers two positions below them.

“We pinpointed Felixstowe, Coggeshall and Thetford at the start of the season as teams that would be up there and Felixstowe came to us recently and were different class,” Alston added.

“I am surprised that Stowmarket have started so poorly, but the league is taking shape now with the usual suspects, Long Melford, Wivenhoe, ourselves and Wanderers near the bottom of the league.

“We need to make sure we are the top of the group of teams near the bottom.”
