Athletics: IPSWICH Harriers played host to the first Southern Women's League at Northgate Sports Centre and carried on from where they left off last season by winning every fixture in this league.

What a difference a week makes in athletics. The perfect weather had disappeared to be replaced with strong cold winds and heavy downpours. This did not, of course, make a bit of difference to athletes, team managers and officials who carried on regardless.
Taking maximum points from A and B strings in 14 events, a further eight single wins, eight second places, one third and one fourth, the Ipswich ladies could feel satisfied with a job well done.
Ipswich's total score was 225 points with Phoenix 120, Eastbourne 112, Harlow 56 and St Albans 43.
In the Senior ladies section there was top marks, in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 3000m, 80m hurdles, high jump, shot and javelin. The U15 girls had 100m, 200m, 75m hurdles and javelin.
Senior lady Claire McAllister took wins from all four of her events and getting her first pb of the new season in the hammer with 29.32. Laura Seston showed a clean pair of heels in the 100m and 200m, as did Louise Morgan in the 100m.
Vicky Tunaley (200m), Sarah Plumb and Leanne Thorndyke (400m) Laura O'Dell and Kirsty Thorndyke (800m), recorded wins and in the 3000m Laura Anderson ran a best time of 11.19.3. Andrea McNally won the B string.
In the 80m hurdles both Candy Bell and Louise Morgan crossed the line first and Hannah Coleman did the same in the 100m hurdles.
For a couple of second places Lizbeth Hicks ran the 1500m, and Vicky Scott the 400m hurdles.
On the field wins went to Katie Brinkley and Vicky Scott in the high jump, Louise Morgan long jump, Claire McAllister and Lizbeth Hicks shot and javelin and Claire in both the discus and hammer.
Sarah Thomas was second in both hammer and discus, Katie Brinkley long jump and in the triple jump Kirsty Thorndyke was fourth.
To round off their afternoon the ladies also took wins from both the 100 and 400ms relay races.
It was winning ways all the way for the under 15 girls sprints and hurdles, Nicole Sadler and Emily Beckett took the 100m, Nicole partnered Sarah Tippett in the 200m where Nicole recorded a pb of 26.7s and in the 75m Kerry Fuller had a pb of 13.4s.
The 4x100m squad also ran the best relay of the day. In the 800m Becky Wellbourn finished third returning a best time of 2.43.9s.
Out on the field, the Ipswich girls took five from six of the throwing events. Hayley Todd and Emily Beckett won the javelin with Emily's throw of 11.81ms her first attempt at the event.
Hayley and Kerry took the discus and in the shot Lana Rogers won the event with a pb of 6.25. Chantelle Edwards won the high jump. Second places went to Hayley (high jump), Chantelle (long jump) and a new event for her with 4.06ms, Kerry Fuller in the shot.
