MARK Loram had a message today for concerned Ipswich Evening Star Witches speedway fans - have faith.

The Elite League season begins tonight at Foxhall Stadium (start 7.30pm) with Ipswich taking on last season's runners-up Reading Bulldogs.

With two rookie Polish riders in their side and a combined team average nearly three points below the limit, Ipswich are rank outsiders.

But Loram, the 2000 world champion and the darling of the Witches fans, said: “Don't give up on us before a wheel has been turned in earnest.

“We have faith in our ability, and our supporters should be the same.

“Promise was shown in our home challenge win over Lakeside last Thursday, and although I would not put money on us winning the title I am sure we can surprise the knockers and finish high in the table.

“We must win our home meetings though as it will not be easy on our travels with two newcomers.

“Reading will be tough opponents as they ride Foxhall well, but we are determined to get off to a winning start and each raise our output by a few per cent this year.”
