THE season may be over for Ipswich but hot-shot Danny Haynes is looking to now fire in the goals for his country.

While the majority of his Blues team-mates will be jetting away to sunnier climes, Haynes will be making his way to the Midlands next week for three England Under-19 European Championship qualifying games against Russia, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.

Haynes has recovered from a hairline fracture to a cheekbone and went on as a substitute in Sunday's 3-1 win over Cardiff City and is now itching to get back into action for his country - even if it means a late holiday.

He said: “The cheek aches a bit sometimes but otherwise it is fine and I feel good. I'm looking forward to carrying on my goal-scoring form with England.

“I won't get as much of a break as the other lads as I'm away with England but I don't mind that.

“The three games are in this country so there won't be too much travelling.”

With seven goals for Town, all after coming off the bench this season, and getting on the score-sheet while on loan at Millwall, it has been a terrific first full-season for the Londoner and he is already keen to help the Blues mount a concerted push for promotion next term.

Haynes said: “I'm looking forward to next season because I really feel we are all coming together. Especially in the last couple of games we have played very well and hopefully that can carry on in pre-season and into the new campaign.

“I'm already raring to go and I don't mind about us coming back in June and earlier than usual. I can't wait for us to get going again. Once we are back in the routine the quicker we can start winning games.”

England's first game is against Russia at Walsall on Tuesday, May 15. This is followed by a match against Holland at Coventry's Ricoh Arena, and the final tie is against the Czech Republic on Sunday, May 20.
