AFTER five matches without a win, Ipswich Ladies seconds ended their season in the Premier Division of the Printwize East League on a high note.

Missing key players Becky Lawrence and Jane Cook, it was always going to be a hard match for the Suffolk side but replacements Debbie Rawlinson and Charlotte Anderson were outstanding.

Ipswich started brightly, forcing the students on the back foot with some typical pacy runs by striker Lucy Philp and she opened the scoring by getting a slight touch to a fierce hit across goal.

Cambridge upped their game and used a simple pass and move tactic that caught Ipswich out on several occasions, but Ipswich keeper Hannah Robinson was in outstanding.

The second half saw the students try to raise their game but Debbie Rawlinson was peerless in her midfield role and the students saw their attacks broken down time and time again.

Philp capped a fine win for Ipswich with a bizarre goal. Having started her run from the 25-yard mark, she was then able to virtually run the ball over the line as the keeper failed to move.

Charlotte Anderson showed real promise in her left defensive role and with the possibility of Rawlinson being available for next season, Ipswich will be looking to build on the current squad for a run at the title.
