Continuing our ITFC nostalgia series, and after a famous win for the Blues at the weekend, we look back to when Ipswich Town last beat Aston Villa in 1994.
Emyr Huws scored a late winner as Ipswich Town secured a gutsy 1-0 victory at Aston Villa yesterday afternoon.
The on-loan Cardiff City midfielder arrived late to stab home David McGoldrick’s sweeping low cross inside the six-yard box in the 83rd minute.
This was Villa’s first home defeat since relegation from the Premier League and Town’s first win against the Midlands club since 1994.

In fact, it was on March 12, 1994, when Villa played host to the Blues at Villa Park in the Premier League in front of almost 24,000 fans.
The first and only goal of the game came via Gavin Johnson in the 8th minute. From there the Blues had to dig in deep to secure the win against a Villa side who boasted the likes of Dean Saunders, Dwight Yorke and Paul McGrath in their squad.
The last win for Town prior to this came in 1992 in the league cup, with another slim 1-0 victory.
The best Ipswich have managed in the nine meetings between the two sides since 1994 were two draws, one in 2002 and another in September 2016 with both scores ending 0-0.
