Aston Villa have shown an interest in Ipswich Town left-back Jonas Knudsen, we understand.
The Dane, who is entering the final year of his contract at Portman Road, started the opening-day draw with Blackburn having spent the summer at the World Cup with his country.
He has previously been linked with moves to Stoke City and Middlesbrough, but we understand Steve Bruce’s Villa are also keen on the 25-year-old.
Both Middlesbrough and Villa have had bids accepted for Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan, with both clubs thought to be eyeing Knudsen as a potential option if they are not able to land the Englishman.
It is understood no bids have been received for Knudsen this summer, with neither Villa or Middlesbrough’s interest yet to progress as far as a formal approach.
We understand a number of clubs, both in England and abroad, have made enquiries regarding the Ipswich defender this summer.
Speaking prior to the start of the season, Hurst insisted there had been no form offers for either Knudsen or Joe Garner, who is interesting Bolton, Sheffield United and Millwall.
“No, there’s certainly nothing concrete in any of those two to my knowledge,” said Hurst. “I certainly expect Jonas to be part of the matchday squad at the weekend.
“We’ll look at each situation on its own merits. If someone comes in and offers £10million for any of our players then I think we’d have some serious dialogue and chances are they might be on their way. But it all depends at what level.”
Meanwhile, Martyn Waghorn’s move to Derby and the arrival of Jon Nolan and Toto Nsiala from Shrewsbury are all nearing a conclusion.
Waghorn has been at Pride Park today to put the finishing touches to his medical, while the Shrewsbury duo have both completed that process at Ipswich.
Once all loose ends have been tied up, the deals are expected to be announced.
