ROY Keane's position as Ipswich Town manager is as strong now as it was at the start of the Championship season.

Blues chief executive Simon Clegg - the mouthpiece of owner and chairman Marcus Evans - confirmed this today.

There was more anguish last night with a stoppage-time Watford leveller after Ipswich had dominated for 90 minutes and shown their best home form of the season.

Keane has failed to lead Town to a single victory in 13 league matches, and they languish at the foot of the table with approaching a third of the season gone.

But Clegg, who gave the manager a vote of confidence three weeks ago, again backed the Irishman today saying:

“Roy's position is exactly the same now as it was at the start of the season.

“His team is improving with every game and it was a massively positive performance last night.

“But consistent with the season we are having so far we conceded yet another late goal.”

And while the board is still right behind Keane so are the fans.

“They were fantastic again,” said Clegg. “They were chanting his name and are right behind Roy.

“They are confident he will get it right, and so am I.”

Town have now seen seven points slip away after conceding late goals. Doncaster equalised in the 84th minute and Sheffield United and Watford deep into injury-time while Barnsley netted a 96th minute winner.
