Ipswich Town strikers Daryl Murphy and Conor Sammon have been named in the Republic of Ireland’s 36-man provisional squad for games against Oman and Georgia next month.

Ireland face Oman in a friendly at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Wednesday, September 3rd, then start their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign with a match against Georgia in Tbilisi four days later.

Murphy, 31, was called back into the Ireland squad after almost six years last season and has now won 11 full caps without scoring, while Sammon, 27, who joined the Blues on a season-long loan from Derby last week, has made nine international appearances, also without hitting the net.

There is no place in the squad for fellow frontman David McGoldrick, who recently revealed he is close to rubber stamping his qualification for Ireland and confirmed he is keen to play for Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane’s side.

Winger Stephen Hunt has been capped 39 times by Ireland but not been selected since 2012. He missed the whole of pre-season with a calf problem but return to action in an Under-21 game at Lowestoft on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, academy schoolboy Andre Dozzell e son of former Blue Jason – skippered England’s U16s for the first hour of a 4-3 friendly defeat to Belgium at St George’s Park yesterday afternoon.

The match was played over four periods of 30 minutes to allow each side to give all their players an hour’s action. Head coach Dan Micciche switched his entire XI after the first two quarters with his side 2-0 in front.

Dozzell, 15, evidently caught the eye during the time he was on the field with The FA’s website reporting: ”Captain Andre Dozzell, son of former Ipswich and Tottenham midfielder Jason, [was] in impressive form in the heart of the England midfield.”
