IPSWICH Town Academy manager Sammy Morgan admitted that “the better side won” after Fulham tasted a 3-1 victory at Portman Road in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup.

Ronan Murray had converted a penalty to put Town 1-0 up on the hour mark, but Fulham came storming back with goals from Alex Smith, Aaron Pierre and an injury-time penalty from Marcello Trotta.

It was the third time this season that Town had lost at the hands of the Cottagers.

Morgan said: “We're disappointed. We started slowly and Fulham definitely had the first 20 minutes.

“But we then had three glorious chances to score, which probably cost us in the long run. Fulham are a decent side, a footballing side, but I felt we had a hold of the game at 1-0.

“Then they got a deflected goal and that built up their momentum. I think the better team won on the evening.”

Fulham will play either Millwall or Aston Villa at home in the quarter-finals.
