Ipswich Town host Bolton Wanderers in the Championship on Saturday, hoping to inflict a fifth straight defeat on Dougie Freedman’s men.

The two clubs have only met on 29 occasions in the league and also fought out four spectacular games in 1999 and 2000.

In 1999, Bolton defeated the Blues on away goals to reach the play-off finals, where they lost to Watford, before 12 months later, Town got their revenge when, after a 2-2 draw in the first leg, Jim Magilton’s hat-trick inspired the Blues to a 5-3 win at Portman Road and a 7-5 win on aggregate.

There are only a handful of past and present footballers that have played for both teams and they are featured in the gallery above. They include Ian Marshall, Nigel Reo-Coker, Ivan Campo and Mark Fish, although the latter enjoyed far more success at Bolton, playing just one half of football for the Blues.
